Samuel Ryder Academy 16-19 Bursary Fund Guidance 2026-2027
The 16–19 Bursary Fund is financial support provided by the government to help eligible students overcome barriers to education. The funding can assist with costs such as travel, meals, essential course equipment, educational visits, and other expenses related to attending and participating in your studies.
Eligibility
There are 2 different funds available to students. They are:
Mandatory Bursary
Students may be eligible for this bursary if they fall into one of the following categories:
- A young person in care
- A care leaver
- A young person in receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit in their own name
- A disabled learner in receipt of Employment and Support Allowance/or Universal Credit and Disability Living Allowance/ or Personal Independence Payments
The student must be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August before the academic year they require the Bursary for to qualify.
Students who fall into these categories will be eligible to receive a bursary of up to £1,200 a year.
Students must provide official confirmation of their eligibility for the Mandatory Bursary, for example a letter from the Local Authority.
Discretionary Bursary
Eligibility for the Discretionary Bursary considers various aspects of family income and evidence of this will be required to process applications. For the academic year the threshold of household income to be eligible is up to £30,000 per annum or less, but exceptional cases will be considered.
Once all applications have been received and approved the bursary level is set.
Application Process
To apply, please log in to Applicaa using the same username and password that you used when making your Sixth Form application. Once logged in, you will be able to access and complete the bursary application form.
The deadline for applications is Friday 11th September 2026 for the 2026-2027 funding.
