Transition into Secondary

Welcome to Samuel Ryder Academy Secondary Phase

Our aim is to make all of our new students feel welcome, safe and confident for their time at Samuel Ryder Academy, enjoying from the beginning what we hope will be some of the best years of their lives. As part of the induction process, a member of the Year 7 team will visit your child at their primary school in the summer term. This is a valuable opportunity for your child and the member of staff to familiarise themselves with each other, and for your child to ask any questions they may have about secondary school life.

Due to the latest Government guidelines we are unable to run our secondary transition day in the usual way this year, we will post information about how this will be taking place online instead.  We have therefore created several transition resources that will be posted on this page.

SRA Summer School

Information for students attending Summer School

Date: 23rd-27th August 2021

Summer School is open to all Year 6 students transitioning to the Academy in September. There will be no cost involved to parents as this is part of the Government’s summer school programme.

The week will run Monday to Friday from 8.30am – 3.30pm. Those attending will be expected to be in school for a full day. Students are to wear non-school uniform, that is practical for the different activities they will be taking part in and the weather.

On days that they have PE/sport, please can they bring in clothes for PE and studded boots for using on the 3G pitch (as outlined in the School Information Book). We also ask students to bring in a full water bottle, snacks and apply sun cream if necessary.
There will be a complimentary lunch provided, which will either be a meat or vegetarian option.

Please note, if you have confirmed your child's place at our Summer School, you will receive an individual timetable before the end of this term.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to get in contact with the school office, i

Tips to Help You Succeed

Samuel Ryder Academy is a really fun place to be and there are many different ways that you can succeed.  Here are just a few suggestions:

  • Take a full and active role in all aspects of school life.
  • Listen and work hard in lessons.
  • Join lunchtime or after-school activities.
  • Do your homework to your full ability and hand it in on time.
  • Make sure you arrive at school on time and aim to achieve 100% attendance each year.

Challenge yourself each school year to learn a new hobby or get involved in a community project.

When we challenge ourselves to do things that we find difficult or scary it helps us to grow in confidence and to grow as a person.

At Samuel Ryder Academy there are lots of fun ways that you can challenge yourself and with this in mind, we encourage you to attend a minimum of three extracurricular clubs each term. Please refer to our current club timetable to see the types of activities we offer.

Life at Samuel Ryder Academy will allow you to not only reach your full potential but to aim even higher than that and you will have a great time doing it.

PGL Liddington Residential

This trip is organised each year as part of our induction programme to aid transition for students between primary and secondary school, helping them to bond with their peers and create new friendships. In the past this trip has proved to be a valuable and thoroughly enjoyable experience for the students.  More information on the centre can be found on the PGL website.
