Welcome back to school, we hope that all the children had a relaxing half term and are ready for more learning.

This half term in English, we are looking forward to completing our whole school 'Take One Book', which this term is 'The Snail and the Whale' and also writing some spring poems that we hope to include in our Easter church service.  In maths, we are focusing on place value (tens and ones), fractions and money.

Thank you to all the parents who actively upload homelearning to Seesaw each week, we really appreciate your support.

Key information:

PE days are changing after half term!

PE will be on a Tuesday morning and a Thursday afternoon. On Tuesday the children can come into school in their PE kit – please remember to send in school clothes for the children to get changed back into afterwards.  The children will be coming home in their PE kit on Thursday as the session is right at the end of the day. Please ensure all items are labelled, even socks and shoes.

Friday 30th October 2023

We have had another busy and productive half term in Year One. We are immensely proud of the children for their enthusiasm and positive attitudes towards their learning.

This half term the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about ‘Changes within living history’, we focused on how chores, fashion, transport and toys had changed.  We are excited to further our knowledge of this topic as we learn about how music has changed.

In the next half term, we will be focusing on materials in our science lessons, Ms Wood has planned some experiments that we are sure the children will enjoy. In English we are focusing on verbally answering questions in full sentences, We are aiming to add more description to our sentences by adding adjectives and focus on using ‘and’ / ‘because’ to extend our sentences.

Things to look out for:

Purple class have welcomed Ms Johns as their full time TA, she may be a familiar face to you if you have older siblings at SRA.

If you have any queries, please do come and speak to us at the classroom door or email us.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Hayes, Miss Lynch, Ms Picton and Ms Wood.

September 2023

Miss Lynch, Ms Picton, Ms Wood and Mrs Hayes have really enjoyed getting to know your children. Thank you for your patience whilst we settle into a routine.

Important dates and notices:

Reading in Year One

Please can you ensure that your child brings in their reading book and record every day and place them in their tray so there is easy access when opportunity arises to read independently.

Home-school reading and/or our on-line Bug Club books are required to be read on a daily basis.  The activity does not need to be more than ten minutes. Please ensure that you record a comment in the reading record when you read with your child or we will assume the book has not been read and keep sending it home again.

Bug Club

Please note that 5 books will be allocated at a time. New books will appear once your child has answered all of the ‘bugs logos’ (comprehension questions) in the book, they will then appear in your library.

Book bags

We are happy for your child to have one small keyring attached to their book bag to help them easily identify their one. However, we ask that any large or extra ones are removed as they will not fit into their trays. Please ensure the book bag does not contain many items from home including toys, games, extra books, etc. Weekly, they will be used for reading books and reading records and library books.

PE

PE will be on a Thursday afternoon and a Friday morning. The children will be coming home in their PE kit on Thursday as the session is right at the end of the day. On Friday the children can come into school in their PE kit – please remember to send in school clothes for the children to get changed back into afterwards.  Please ensure all items are labelled, even socks and shoes.

Library

Orange class will have library on Tuesday and purple class will have library on a Friday. The children are only allowed to take home one book at a time; therefore, they will need to return their book in order to borrow a new book.

Home Learning

In Year One all home learning can be uploaded onto Seesaw.

School dinners

Please remember that you MUST order a school dinner via the ‘Aspens Select’ website https://select.aspens-services.com// by 8am. A good idea is to book the meals in advance then you can always edit at a later time.

A gentle reminder that all packed lunches and snacks brought into school must be ‘Nut and Sesame Safe’ (this includes seeded bread). ‘Safe’ means it is not within the main ingredients. Break time snacks need to be fruit or vegetables in order to promote health eating.
