Science
Science in the ACE Curriculum is all about discovery.
Students take part in research, experimental, and oracy-based tasks that spark curiosity and build an understanding of how science explains the world around us. They can design experiments, analyse data, and explore cutting-edge discoveries in biology, chemistry, and physics.
Science encourages curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Research |
Science in My Area Investigate one local plant, animal, or environmental feature. Present your findings in a mini fact file, including where it's found, how it survives, and any dangers it faces. |
Scientist Spotlight Choose a scientist (past or present) and create a one-page biography. Include what they discovered, why it’s important, and one interesting fact that surprised you. |
Create |
Create a superhero whose powers are based on scientific principles (e.g. photosynthesis, magnetism, gravity). Include a drawing and a short paragraph describing their powers and how they use science to help others. |
Create a comic that explains a science process or life cycle (e.g. the water cycle, food chains, pollination) in a fun, story-based way that helps others understand the concept. |
Oracy |
Science Show-and-Tell Prepare a 2-minute talk on a science-related object from home (e.g. a plant, magnet, fossil, or kitchen item). Explain its properties, how it works, and why it's interesting scientifically. |

What colour is a polar bear's fur? |
Write a news report about what you think is the most important scientific discovery. |
Create |
Create a 3D model of a plant and animal cell. Research and include as much detail as you can. |
Attend a science club lunchtime session. |
Oracy |
Listen to the news and make a note of any news related to science that you can research further. |
Create a song to remember the first 20 elements in the periodic table. |

Create |
Design a board game on a science topic of your choice. |
Create a board game that helps players learn about a science topic you’ve studied (e.g. cells, forces, the periodic table, ecosystems). Think about:

Oracy |
Prepare a talk or debate on a ‘hot’ science topic. |
Choose a recent science-related news story (e.g. AI in medicine, climate protests, space exploration). Prepare a short talk or debate argument:

Research |
Explore the science behind sustainable energy sources and evaluate their potential to replace fossil fuels in the future. This task encourages you to investigate real-world applications, scientific principles, and global challenges related to energy production and consumption. |
Choose one sustainable energy source to research in depth. Examples include:
Research and present findings on the following:
Stretch Challenge (optional):

Create |
Use your scientific knowledge and creativity to design a sustainable habitat for humans to live on Mars. This task blends biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science with engineering and design thinking. |
You are part of a team of scientists and engineers tasked with designing a self-sustaining Martian habitat for a crew of astronauts. Your habitat must support life, provide energy, recycle resources, and protect inhabitants from the harsh Martian environment. Your design must include: Life Support Systems:
Energy Solutions:
Protection from the Environment:
Scientific Justification:
