Physical Education

PE promotes teamwork, resilience, and well-being.

Students take part in research, creative, and oracy tasks that explore physical performance, sportsmanship, and the science behind healthy living. They can try a variety of sports, participate in fitness challenges, and set personal goals.

PE encourages an active lifestyle, confidence, and collaboration.

KS2

Research 

Super Athlete Profile 
Choose a famous athlete and make a poster or PowerPoint with 5 interesting facts about them, including the sport they do and what makes them inspiring.

What Happens When We Exercise? 
Research what happens to the body when we exercise (heart rate, muscles, breathing). Draw or label a simple diagram showing these effects.

Create 

Design a Playground Game 
Invent a new playground game. Write the rules and draw a diagram of how it works. Try it out with friends or family! 

Create a Sports Mascot 
Design a mascot for your school’s PE department or sports day. Think about what values the mascot represents (teamwork, courage, fun!).

Oracy 

Talk About a Sport You Love 
Prepare a short talk for a family member or friend about your favourite sport or activity. Explain why you enjoy it, how it makes you feel, and what skills you’ve learned.

Interview a Grown-Up 
Interview a parent or carer about a sport or activity they used to do as a child. Write or record a short summary of what you learned.

Year 7

Research

Read a sports Autobiography of someone from your favourite sport.

Pick two English sports – what are their origins?

Create

Read the article below how to write a sports report.

Watch your favourite sports team/national team/school team and write a match report.

Write your own sporting autobiography. Include what you have done up to this point, including primary school and outside of SRA – where do you see your sport taking you in the next 10 years?

Create a poster/plaque you could hold up at a live sporting event in support of your favourite team/athlete.

Oracy

Interview a PE teacher regarding a recent school fixture (3 minutes).

Create a 10-song playlist to get you in the zone pre-match/event. What songs have you chosen?

Year 9

Research 

Trailblazers in Sport 
Research a pioneering athlete (e.g., Tanni Grey-Thompson, Marcus Rashford, or Simone Biles). Create a fact sheet or short presentation on their achievements and impact.

Fitness Fads Through Time 
Explore the evolution of fitness trends (e.g., Jane Fonda videos, CrossFit, Zumba). Which were most effective, and why did some become popular?

Create 

Design a PE Kit 
Create a new PE kit for your school or a specific sport. Consider functionality, weather, sustainability, and school branding. Include sketches and descriptions.

Create a Warm-Up Routine 
Design a 5-minute warm-up sequence for a specific sport or activity. Include drawings or video explanations of each movement and explain why it's important.

Oracy 

Sporting Debate 
Debate this statement with a peer or family member: 
"All elite athletes should be role models." 
Prepare points for and against, then reflect on your conclusion.

Fitness Vlog 
Create a 2–3 minute video explaining your weekly fitness routine or a sport you play. Talk about the benefits, challenges, and how it supports your mental and physical wellbeing.

Research
