Opening of our fantastic 3G Pitches!Posted on 15/10/2018
Friday was a very exciting day at school with the official opening of our fantastic new 3G pitches by Georgie Bingham, talkSPORT presenter and Football Foundation Ambassador. Our facility has been made possible thanks to investment from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund, which is delivered by the Football Foundation and the great fundraising efforts of our fantastic PTA. In addition to the 3G pitch being used for a huge number of school curricular and extra-curricular activities, St Albans City Youth FC are also going to use the site as a training facility. More than 850 people are expected to start playing football on the pitch over the next five years which represents a growth of 224% and of this, significant growth in the number of female players using the facility is also predicted.
Georgie Bingham, talkSPORT presenter and Football Foundation Ambassador, said :'Following Europe's recent victory at the Ryder Cup, it feels a fitting tribute that a school named after the founder of this renowned golf event has their own reason to celebrate with the opening of its wonderful new all-weather pitch. As a sports lover myself, I am very envious looking on at the fabulous facilities available to the students at Samuel Ryder Academy. To think that children from the age of 4 through to 18 at the school can use this new 3G pitch to hone their sporting skills is hugely promising for their future development, and you never know, some may go on to be the next Harry Kane or even Tommy Fleetwood!
'I think it is hugely important that the Premier League, FA and Government recognise the importance of improving grassroots facilities to help develop and shape the future of football in this country. I hope the thousands of children who will play on this pitch over the coming years look back at their time playing sport at Samuel Ryder Academy with fond memories'
