YEAR 4
Monday 30th October 2023
Welcome back to Year 4, we hope you all had a lovely half term. The children have impressed us with the great learning attitudes we have seen since they have come back and we cannot wait to get stuck into our work over the next few weeks.
In English, we enjoyed kicking off with our Take One Book topic of The Spider and The Fly poem. The children wrote some fantastically persuasive letters and showed us some excellent emotive language. We are now moving on to looking at non-chronological reports and are exploring this by looking at some outstanding architecture around the world.
We have started Maths this half term by revising and refining methods for addition and subtraction. We will now be moving on to using multiplication and division facts to solve trickier problems and looking at new methods to do this. The children have enjoyed our new Science topic all about Sound - we had a great time investigating how to make an effective cup and string telephone. We are continuing our History topic about Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and are looking forward to making our own longboats during our D&T lessons later in the term.
Reminders and important information
Reading
Please remember to read at least 3 times a week at home and ensure this is recorded in the reading records. Please make sure you make use of the reading books and comprehension questions on BugClub. We also encourage reading magazines, library books, newspapers, blogs, listening to audio books - anything that takes your fancy!
Times Tables Rockstars
All children have been issued with a Times Tables Rockstars login. Please continue to practise this frequently and earn as many coins as possible - it is essential that children are practising this as much as possible to help prepare them for the Year 4 Multiplication Test we will have in Summer 2024.
PE
PE will continue to be on a Wednesday and Friday this half term. We will also be taking part in swimming lessons on a Thursday afternoon (swimming costume/shorts, swimming hat and towel are required, goggles are optional). Children need to come into school in PE kit on a Wednesday only.
The lessons are as follows:
Wednesday - both classes have basketball.
Friday - Warwick have football (please bring boots), Durham have Dance.
Homework will be set on a Friday. Homework is due in on a Tuesday and will need to be submitted on SeeSaw (unless otherwise stated).
If you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to catch us at the door or send us an email.
